At Mid-South Beauty and Barbering Academy, we aim to give each student meaningful, hands-on teaching and guidance in their desired field of study. Our licensed instructors are true professionals in the beauty industry, eager to share their knowledge and experience with the next generation. We teach students a curriculum that meets state requirements for beauty school programs, and we also teach practical, real-world tips on how to be successful barbers, cosmetologists, estheticians, natural hairstylists, and manicurists. Our programs include lessons in business management, such as building up a client base and consulting with clients.
Small class sizes at our beauty school help make the educational experience more personalized. Our overall school culture is supportive and encouraging, and we strive to help each student meet their educational goals as they train with us. Our beauty school offers a supportive environment for students seeking a quality beauty education in Memphis. We have reasonable payment plans, flexible scheduling, and a student salon area where students can gain real-life experience with real clients under the direct supervision of licensed instructors. We also care about the local community, and our extensive community partnerships and interactions can make a positive impact on the future careers of our students.
Not everyone is ready for the same type of school commitment, and we understand that jobs and family commitments can make it difficult to get the education you need to advance your career. That is why we offer flexible scheduling options for some of our programs. Shadonna Banks is an active entrepreneur and community leader. Her passion for the beauty and barbering industry inspired her to open her own beauty and barber school. She began Mid-South Beauty and Barbering Academy in 2019 with a vision to create one of the best online and in-person schools in the United States. Her ultimate goal is to make a meaningful impact on her community, empowering individuals to achieve success in their personal and professional lives.
She has extensive experience in the cosmetology field, having served as a director at the Tennessee Academy of Cosmetology for six years and as a licensed instructor for over 23 years.
Prior to beginning Mid-South Beauty and Barbering Academy, she founded For the People, a nonprofit organization focused on helping individuals succeed in critical areas such as health, education, sports, music, and personal development. Shadonna is also a Counselor in Training (CIT) at For the People Counseling, where she provides support and guidance to those in need. Her career in counseling and community service spans over a decade, during which she has held the position of CFO and Office Administrator at For the People Counseling Service.
Shadonna is passionate about student success. As Mid-South Beauty and Barbering Academy grows, she wants to put her diverse leadership skills into action to create an amazing student experience!

We are located at 3932 South Perkins Road, Memphis, TN 38118, not far from Mid-South Food Bank, Diamond Event Center, and Tokyo Spa.
Enrollment for our programs is ongoing throughout the year. Each program has different start dates, and we offer flexible scheduling for some of our programs. Begin the enrollment process whenever you are ready!
Because we are not a nationally-accredited school, we cannot offer federal financial aid. However, you may be able to obtain a student loan from a local bank or financial institution. We also offer payment plans as a way to make beauty school more affordable.
We teach students from all walks of life! Many students have recently graduated from high school and are looking for an alternative to traditional college. Some students are older adults looking for a career change. If you want to learn what it takes to be a beauty professional, we have a program to help make it possible.
